Absence/Presence
Eleanor Goudie-Averill and Rain Ross
Dance, 75 minutes
Come see inversions of reality in the choreography of Ellie Goudie-Averill and Rain Ross, two talented and technical female dancers and choreographers. This show combines sex, social activism, and poetry, creating an ideal experience for the intelligent dance lover as well as those who appreciate pure energetic movement.
Absence/Presence, co-presented by Stone Depot Dance Lab and Rain Ross Dance, features the work of choreographers Eleanor Goudie-Averill and Rain Ross. The two choreographers, who met in the graduate program at the University of Iowa, are excited to have this opportunity to work together.
Rain Ross Dance, previously Lehua Dance Theatre, has been presenting choreography since 2001. The company, originally formed in Seattle, challenges the notions of what is expected in art today with fresh and exciting choreographic works.
Stone Depot Dance Lab takes its name from the Brooklyn loft where the founders lived, rehearsed, and presented their first collaborative concerts in 2007. Now based in Philadelphia, Stone Depot continues to create honest and experiential dances.
In creating dance, both Goudie-Averill and Ross value physicality, movement invention, honesty, subtlety, and accessibility for the general audience. With their shared aesthetic principles, this promises to be an exciting performance!
